Hieu T. Ball, MD, is a double fellowship-trained spine surgeon who completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Harvard Medical School. With a special focus on outpatient minimally invasive spine surgery and artificial disc replacement, Dr. Ball strives to deliver academic excellence in his private practice setting.
Dr. Ball serves on the clinical faculty for minimally invasive techniques for artificial disc replacement, minimally invasive lumbar fusions, and sacroiliac joint fusion. Dr. Ball is actively involved in teaching and clinical research in all these areas. He has published and presented at national orthopaedic surgery and spine meetings, written textbook chapters, and holds patents on spine related intellectual property.
Dr. Ball grew up in Hawaii, attended Punahou Academy, and later matriculated at Cornell University, where he earned his B.A. in Biology. He later attended Tufts University Medical School, where he earned his Medical Doctorate and Master’s in Public Health in the medical school’s 4-year combined degree program.
His General Surgery internship took place at Harvard Medical School, Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Dr. Ball then completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Harvard Medical School, six years which involved extensive clinical training at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Beth Israel-New England Deaconess Hospital. He then served as Pediatric Spine Fellow at Boston Children’s Hospital, where he focused on pediatric trauma, hip dysplasia treatment, and complex pediatric spinal deformity. Dr. Ball then performed a second spine fellowship in adult spine surgery at UCLA-affiliated institutions.
